We pick one thing, and mean it.
Maple & Moss started this fall with a simple rule: for each thing the season asks for, choose one. Not a range. Not a catalog. One boot, one cardigan, one cleaner that makes the house smell like October. Then put our name next to it.
A store with ten boots is asking you to do the work. A store with one has already done it.
Why there’s no catalog.
Most fall shopping is scrolling. Forty pairs of boots, filters, tabs, a cart you forget about. We wanted the opposite: a shop that behaves like a friend with good taste. You ask about boots, they hand you the pair.
So every product here has its own page, its own number, and nothing else competing for the space. You came for one thing. The whole store stays about that thing.
It’s a small operation, run by people who would rather send one good note than a weekly newsletter. If something isn’t right, say so and a person reads it.
How a find earns its number.
Start with the need
Not “what can we sell” but “what does October actually ask for.” Cold mornings, wet leaves, the first night you want the house to smell like something.
One need, one slotShortlist without mercy
Everything that could fill the slot goes on the list. Then most of it comes off. Looks right in photos but wrong in hand, fussy details, the price that doesn’t match the thing.
Compared, not collectedArgue until one is left
The last two are always close. The one that stays is the one we’d hand a friend without a caveat. If there’s a caveat, it goes on the page in plain words.
No caveats hiddenIt gets a number
Fall find No. 01, No. 02, and on through the season. The number is the promise: this one won, and we’ll tell you why in three sentences, not thirty.
Numbered, on purposeTwo halves of the season.
Maple
The color of itThe part of fall that shows up all at once. Ember, rust, amber. The reason you pull the boots out.
Moss
The calm under itThe part that stays. Deep green, quiet, still there when the leaves are gone. The reason the good things last past November.
Three promises.
One find per need
We won’t add a second boot to hedge. If a better one comes along, it replaces the first and takes the number.
The page tells the truth
Photos as it arrives. Fit notes in plain words. If we’d warn a friend about something, it’s written down.
A person answers
Say hello and a human reads it. No ticket numbers, no bots, no “a member of our team.”
This season’s find.
One thing, chosen for fall. The whole store is about it.
